"New Moon," the second film in the vampire movie franchise kicked off by "Twilight," dominated a poll on the public's favorite films of 2009. The sequel, "Transformers," divided audiences.
Noted as the worst film of 2009 by US website Moviefone.com, "Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen" was also named the best action film of the year and the second most disappointing film, losing out only to "Bruno" in the latter category.
Megan Fox, the star of "Transformers," was chosen as the sexiest actress of the year and also the actress with the worst performance of the year, according to the poll released on Monday.
Regardless, "Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen" grossed over $834 million in worldwide ticket sales, making it the third biggest commercial success of the year, behind "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" and "Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs," according to Boxofficemojo.com.
There was no such ambivalence regarding "New Moon," the sequel to 2008's blockbuster "Twilight." Both films are based on the best-selling young adult novels by Stephenie Meyers.
Despite being only the number six film at the global box office for 2009, having grossed $662 million to date, "New Moon" was named the best film in the Moviefone poll, attracting 41.1% of the votes. It was also cited as the best "chick flick" of the year.
Robert Pattinson was named the sexiest actor of the year with 46.5% of the vote, followed by his co-star Taylor Lautner (20.1%), who was also named best breakout actor of the year.
The next film in the vampire love saga, "Eclipse," heads the list of upcoming attractions fans are most eager to see in 2010, ahead of "Iron Man 2" and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1."
The comedy "The Hangover" was chosen by 51.8% of voters as the funniest film of 2009. Disney-Pixar's "Up" was named the best animated film, and Sandra Bullock was hailed as best actress for the sleeper hit "The Blind Side."
