(Weekly World News article, June 3, 2003, Source confirmed by silviolobo!)

Publishing house managers are trying to figure out why no one noticed that one of their employees had been dead at his desk for FIVE DAYS. George Turklebaum, 51, who had worked as a Text Verifier at a New York firm for 30 years, suffered a heart attack on the floor where he worked (open space, no partitions) with 23 other employees.
He died peacefully on Monday, but no one noticed until the following Saturday morning, when a cleaning employee questioned him because he was still working on the weekend. His boss, Elliot Wachiaski, said:

'George was always the first to arrive every day and the last to leave at the end of the workday; no one found it strange that he was in the same position the whole time and didn't say anything.
He was always engrossed in his work and kept to himself.'

The autopsy revealed that he had been dead for five days after suffering a heart attack.

Critique of the event received by email

SUGGESTION:

Every now and then, nod to your colleagues.
Make sure they are alive and show that you are too!

MORAL OF THE STORY:

Don't overwork. No one really notices...
