Leslie Nielsen was born in Regina, Canada on February 11, 1926, and passed away in Fort Lauderdale on November 28, 2010, at the age of 84, leaving behind a legacy as an American comedy legend. Doug Nielson, Leslie William Nielsen's nephew, told Canadian radio station CJOB that the actor had been in the hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for 12 days and that "he just fell asleep and passed away" with family and friends by his side.
Nielsen was one of the leads in the 1956 classic "Forbidden Planet," where he played the spaceship captain. He later starred in "The Poseidon Adventure" in 1972.
However, the actor is especially remembered for his comedic roles in films such as "Airplane!" (1980), "The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!" (1988) – and its sequels "The Naked Gun 2½" (1991) and "Naked Gun 33⅓" (1994) –, "Dracula: Dead and Loving It" (1995), "Spy Hard" (1996), "Mr. Magoo" (1997), as well as his participation in the series "Scary Movie".
To remember is to live,
