015. Debunking some points of the Marco Aurélio Case.
Learn more about this image, by clicking here.

1. The path from Base dos Marins (Refúgio dos Marins) to Pico dos Marins is easy to navigate, especially since those at Pico dos Marins can see the cities below.

THIS IS FALSE!

Naturally, on a sunny winter afternoon, if you are at the top of the peak or on a rock up high, you will get a beautiful view of the horizon. But below the summit, and more precisely below Morro do Careca, there is Atlantic Forest. See the photo below:

Even if you are halfway there, you will find the so-called Elephant Grass, which is a type of very tall grass that makes it difficult to see the path. Marco Aurélio was almost blind in one eye, and his other eye had about 40 or 50% vision, which already made things difficult and turned it into an even greater challenge for him.

There were also climatic characteristics. On the very first day of the search, they had to stop due to fog, which prevented them from seeing objects a few meters away, and strong storms.

2. The entire region was searched, making it impossible for Marco Aurélio to be there.

THIS IS FALSE.

I discuss this in one of the articles in this Special on the case. Although the volunteers and military did their best, there are many points that would have required special attention. One observation made by visitors to the region is the existence of holes in the terrain.

Even with heavy rains, and these holes being at the end of "false trails," why don't they fill up? This happens because there are fissures there. Although sadly, we must question whether any of these fissures might have housed a body weighing less than fifty kilograms?

The accounts mention that a 100-meter rope was lowered into some fissures, and even then, they did not reach the bottom.

Furthermore, the searched area appears to be smaller than reported. Let's see.

It is stated that the search was conducted within a 30 km radius in all directions from the accident site of Osvaldo, although some say it was 30 km from the portal stone, as it was Marco Aurélio's last recorded location.

We also know that the searches were conducted only from the base of Marins upwards.

So something here doesn't add up. I'll draw it.

Search area for Marco Aurelio

Image text: If the search area were indeed 30 km in radius, they would have scoured Pico dos Marins, the city of Piquete, and hundreds of farms. But the search was only from the Base upwards, something a little over 6 km. A young man with physical conditioning, in 20 hours of walking, could have covered an area 9 times larger than the searched area. The big mistake was searching only in the section above the Base, when even the leader and the other scouts had already crossed the road and reached a farm well beyond the foot of the mountain.

One possibility is that there is an error in stating that the search was conducted within a 30 km radius. And the correct statement would be that the searches were concentrated in an area of 30 km².

To understand, it's important to say that a radius is a straight line from a point, see:

A radius is this.

This is a radius. And understand that a 30 KM radius would cover the urban area of Piquete and other nearby municipalities (2,826m² area).

But the characters in this factual story say that the area searched was from the Base dos Marins terrain to the Peak, so this radius is only 6 km (113.04 Km²). Which is a lot, but not enough to find a lost boy.

They took too long to search for him only on the mountain. With the searches starting the next day, it would have been necessary to cordon off a region many times larger than the area searched.

Another serious error was assuming that the young man was no longer there and failing to conduct a more thorough search in the areas furthest from the summit.

3. Did Marco Aurélio reach Refúgio dos Marins and was brutally murdered by Afonso's son?

Until the case was reopened more than 30 (thirty) years after the teenager's disappearance, there were no investigations into this matter. But we will dedicate a section of this Special solely to discussing these theories. Continue reading.

4. Was Marco Aurélio abducted or taken to another dimension?

Well... It's important to remember that children and teenagers disappear every year worldwide. There is even an International Missing Children's Day (May 25th), which is used to raise awareness about the cause.

image of a scout being abducted by a flying saucer for you. The image shows a boy dressed in a green uniform and a red scarf, raising his arms in surrender.

Investigations indicate that most are related to crimes and runaway minors.

Justifying a teenager's disappearance by simplifying it as abduction is quite negligent.

There is a quote by Carl Sagan, hated by urologists, that states, "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence."

The only indication that Marco Aurélio might have been in another dimension after being abducted is the Blue Light episode. (Read about it HERE)

If someone told me they heard, in the woods, a whistle, then screams, a blue light, followed by silence. I would imagine someone in the woods was asking for help and was silenced by someone else who found them and had a blue flashlight. Speculation...

5. The prank

Another theory circulating on the internet with unknown authorship is that Marco Aurélio died during a prank on the night of the 7th. According to this theory, the young man was already dead by the morning of the 8th, and all the events of that day were to hide his body. The theory is reminiscent of Lois Duncan's book 'I Know What You Did Last Summer,' which was adapted into a movie.
Those who support this theory seem incredulous at the series of mistakes and fail to understand how, after Juan's errors, there was still loyalty from the boys to the leader, who, according to the official story, seemed completely disoriented and almost led everyone to their deaths.
Another point that leads people to believe this theory is the fact that practically all those involved have chosen to remain silent today.
Even the scouts who were never accused vehemently deny talking about the subject, as happened recently in the podcast aired on Globo Play, where only Ricardo spoke.
But there are those who deny this theory, arguing that despite everything that happened, they would eventually tell the truth. Because they were teenagers, and at home, instructed by their families, they wouldn't carry such a secret for almost 40 years.
It is important to note that this "theory" is a disguised slander. Just like the hypothesis that Juan killed the boy, or that João, Sr. Afonso's son, is the murderer, such claims have no proof and hurt both those pointed out as suspects and their families.
Thus, the theories are presented here solely because the present article seeks to gather everything that is said about the subject. Even though I understand that many hypotheses are put forward by people who have no idea who the involved parties are.
I believe that one reason for the scouts' and the leader's silence is the consequences of years of slander and defamation they have suffered.
The prank hypothesis is also discussed in Pico dos Marins | Episode 10: A Stain on the Land | Globoplay Original Podcast. Link
In this special, we will discuss each hypothesis! Continue reading.
