LEONARDO DA VINCI
Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci Leonardo da Vinci, an Italian Renaissance artist, was born on 04/15/1452.
Cloux, Amboise, May 2, 1519) was a painter, architect, engineer, scientist, musician, and sculptor of the Italian Renaissance. He is considered one of the greatest geniuses in human history. He didn't exactly have a surname, "di ser Piero" being a relation to his father, "Messer Piero" (something like Don Pedro), and "da Vinci," a relation to his family's place of origin, meaning "from Vinci."
Born in a small village near the Tuscan municipality of Vinci, Leonardo was the illegitimate son of Piero da Vinci, a young notary, and Caterina. Leonardo's mother was probably a peasant woman, although it is suggested, with little evidence, that she was a Jewish slave from the Middle East bought by Piero. Leonardo da Vinci himself signed his works simply as Leonardo or Io Leonardo. Most authorities refer to his works as Leonardos and not da Vincis. It is presumed that he did not use his father's name due to his illegitimate status.
Leonardo da Vinci is considered by many to be the greatest genius in history, due to his multiplicity of talents in science and arts, his ingenuity and creativity, as well as his controversial works. In a study conducted by Catherine Cox in 1926, his IQ was estimated at around 180. Other sources mention 220.
