This document was found in the city of Aquila, in Naples. It was inside a beautiful stone, which contained two small boxes, one of iron and inside it another of extremely fine ivory, where the very valuable document was written in Hebrew letters on a parchment. Here it is in full:
In the XVIII (sic) year of Tiberius Caesar, Roman Emperor and of the whole world, invincible Monarch in the XXI Olympiad, the XXIV Clíade and the Creation of the World, according to the numbers and calculations of the Hebrews, four times m.c.1xxxvii, and of the propagation of the Roman Empire L.xxiii, of the liberation from Babylonian slavery m.cc.xi, with Lucius Pisano and Mauricius Pisarico as Consuls of the Roman People; Lucius Balesna, public Governor of Judea, and Quintus Flavius, as Proconsuls, under the governorship and rule of Jerusalem, most grateful Governor Pontius Pilate, ruler of lower Galilee, and Herod Antipas, High Priests Annas, Caiaphas, Alit Almael the Magr. of the temple, Roboan Ancabel, Franchino Centurion, and Roman Consuls and of the City of Jerusalem Quintus Cornelius Sublima and Sextus Pontilius Rufus; on the XXV day of March. "I, Pontius Pilate, here Roman President within the Palace of the Archpresidency, judge, condemn and sentence to death Jesus called by the mob Christ the Nazarene, and of Galilean homeland, a seditious man against the Mosaic Law, contrary to the great Emperor Tiberius Caesar; and I determine, and pronounce, by this decree, that his death be on the Cross, and nailed with spikes as is customary with criminals, because here by gathering and assembling many men rich and poor he did not stop causing riots throughout Judea, making himself the son of God and King of Jerusalem, threatening to bring ruin to this City, and to its Sacred Temple, denying tribute to Caesar, and still having the audacity to enter with palm branches, in triumph, and with part of the mob, into the City of Jerusalem and the Sacred Temple. And I order that my first Centurion Quintus Cornelius publicly lead Jesus Christ through the City, bound and whipped, and that he be dressed in purple and crowned with thorns, with the Cross itself on his shoulders so that he may be an example to all wrongdoers; and with him two homicidal thieves shall be led, and they shall exit through the Sacred Gate, now Antonian, and that Jesus be taken to the public mountain of Justice called Calvary, where, crucified and dead, the body shall remain on the Cross, as a spectacle for all the wicked; and that over the Cross a title be placed in three languages, and in all three (Hebrew, Greek, and Latin) it shall say: IESUS NAZAR. REX IUDAEORUM. "In the same way, we order that no one of any state or qualification dare rashly to impede such Justice ordered by me, administered and executed with all rigor according to Roman and Hebrew decrees and Laws, under penalty of rebellion to the Roman Emperor.
