On December 15, 2010, on the last day of effective voting in the Chamber, the plenary approved the bill for a 61.83% increase in the salaries of the parliamentarians themselves, a 133.96% increase in the salary of the President of the Republic, and a 148.63% increase in the salaries of the Vice-President and State Ministers.
PSol was the only party that tried to prevent the approval. "This decision deepens the abyss between society and Parliament. It is an excess," stated Congressman Chico Alencar (PSol-RJ).
Who are the authors of this hastily voted request?
The authorship of the salary increase bill belongs to the Board of Directors of the Federal Chamber, which currently has Michel Temer of PMDB from São Paulo as its president, and Marco Maia of PT from Rio Grande do Sul as the 1st Vice-President. The rapporteur of the matter is also the government leader, Senator Romero Jucá (PMDB-RO).
